Warrior, assassin and ranger heroes - are they any good? where and how?
Ways I use my heroes, (by amount of use and frequency):
N - MM almost everywhere. SV against some bosses, SS sometimes. P - Motivation for both heal and damage. Rt - Channeling and some restoration. Mo - Prot, and sometimes heal. E - Some fire damage. D - necro orders with wind heals. Me - Domination in some HM. R - Used them a bit for hero b/p, but now, wherever b/p was good, a stack of paragons with the proper support is even better. stuff like frozen soil or eoe are better mounted on someones secondary, and the little interruption I need is taken care of by my monk/mesmer heroes, various KDs all around, and plain old killing. A and W - in most pve situations, will not deal nearly as much damage as a proper E or Rt, and will barely supply any protection to the party. (Mainly Necros and Paras, but sometimes other profession as well, can supply a nice combination of damage and party support in a good synergy of skills). So between the use of paragons, and the very little need to tank things due to minions and plain fast-killing, is there any use left for Ranger, Assassin, and Warrior heroes, or are they forever damned to be just some extra storage slots and fff runners? |

They're good for hfff runs, but not much else. Melee in general is rather viable party choice, but because of how hero AI works those warriors and assassins will disengage as soon as you start kiting yourself.

W: Huh? Warrior heroes are pretty good, even with their kiting problems.
WY! provides reliable party protection, you can always slot purge signet on them and/or succor. Earthshaker based builds top that with some nice disruption. A: Not much, true. Some people might run them as crit scythe or crit barrage or crit interupter. Neither is really good if you have primary heroes. R: BHA, Choking gas. Usefull in some PvE. Pets and spirits distract ai same way like minions do. |

to be honest i never use warriors or assassins as heroes. their AI means they can't pull off attack chains quickly and never use skills in the right order. having two melees in a team seems like a waste of space to me, when others things do much more damage and provide better protection, like a warder for instance, and that you only need one 'tank' or 'something to take the aggro off the casters.' warrior/sin heroes cannot do that job anyway because, like you said before, they begin to kite and break combat as soon as you do (really bad when your a monk). i also find i have to call targets to make them fight in the first place.
Rangers, on the other hand, are extremely useful. BHA/volley/splinter causes some extreme damage, as well as protection from volatile casters. also they have interrupting skills as good as or better than lots of players. pyre is at no. 4 in my most used heroes list, after a nuker, a prot monk, and a warder. when me and my friend go dungeoning an interrupter is always there. it may not seem like it, but rangers do save lives. |

I don't use Warrior or Assassin heroes much, but I use Ranger heroes quite frequently. A BHA Ranger hero can be extremely useful when my party goes up against multiple enemy spellcasters. The Ranger keeps one caster quiet, I focus my own interrupts on another caster, and the rest of the team has a bit more breathing space to kill the others.
On the occasions when I use Warrior heroes, I usually give them "Watch Yourself!" and "Shields Up!" as some party protection. Quite effective in a lot of cases. |

With the right builds any hero is of use, it all depends on your skill unlocks and your play style really.
I run rangers all the time with great effectiveness. They can do so much good to a party. Warriors are very usefull for the great deal of dmg they can dish out and the minimal healing they require. Assassins are ok for a few areas, not a huge fan of them myself but they do have a few builds that the heros run extremely well and can dish out very fast boss kills when use correctly. |

I use Koss all the time. With the right build he's a pretty solid hero with good DPS.

Assassins and Warriors tear through PvE like a knife through hot butter; as with all physicals they pwn face.
However, the AI on Warr and Assassin heroes is so epically bad... ... Stick with Paragons and Necros. As for Ranger heroes... they're ok and use interrupts well with that silly reflex, they just happen to suck with the best PvE ranger elite - BHA. When I take Ranger heroes, I force BHA usage myself. |

I use my Pyre a lot to interrupt. Going 2-man with H/H he's always in there. Koss hangs around as an 'extra' who gets shoved in the party when a generalist build is needed.
I managed to choose the 'not ranger' option all the way through NF on my warrior and really regretted it at the end when I wanted interrupts. |

I used my koss to get legendary vanquisher and guardian (before gwen came out) Set up correctly, he's got a high survivability and was often the one who stayed alike the longest and rezzed just in the nick of time to save a mission. Don't use sin hero much, but BHA ranger > over powered hm bosses.

Warrior: yes, I have a team with 2 para + warrior heroes quite often.
Sin: dunno, never tried them and can't think of a good team around them. Ranger: as mentioned the BHA hero or generic hero. Currently doing some testing how they perform with beastmastery. Seems to be ok so far, but need to level their pets up first. |

Gimping my warrior just to bring it isn't > than having a good warrior build along with a BHA ranger who also has a nice effective full skill bar. Nor does everyone have a high Asuran rank (yes, even those of us going through HM don't - especially those of us farming said points to *get* to the high rank). |

Seeing as how you are only limited to 3 heroes (shakes fist at ANet) I don't ever take dervish/warrior/assassin heroes. Those three hero spots are just to important when warrior henchman aren't that far of a drop from them compared to the drop of other hero to henchman professions. Rangers have their spots to dominate certain areas but paragons and necromancers dominate my hero skill spots.
